MTV Ink Quiet Riot

September 5, 2003 was the first leg of MTV Ink's Quiet Riot. Last night, it featured acoustic performances by Silent Sanctuary, Nityalila and Joey Ayala. Silent Sanctuary's set was indeed interesting since it was my first time to watch them play in an acoustic set-up which is very much different from the usual I-wanna-hear-distorted-guitars set-up. Silent Sanctuary is indeed classical music meets alternative rock. Its unique in a sense that classical stringed instruments were fused into the modernity of alternative rock. And indeed, it produced such a unique and interesting blend. Nityalila always plays in acoustic set-up with percussions from Ria of A Murder of Crows and mandolin from Punnu Wasu. A little trivia first, the lead parts in the song This Side by Nickel Creek were played using a mandolin. Joey Ayala's songs were really great. Nicely written songs indeed from the master.
